Te Ara Rangatahi

Te Ara Rangatahi Story

Te Ara Rangatahi was created by young people from Ngati Te Ata who came together in June 2015 to discuss what they could do for their Iwi, Ngati Te Ata.

Te Ara Rangatahi was really influenced by seeing generations of hard working parents and grandparents contribute to the Iwi and wondering how we, as rangatahi, could add value or help.

We thought about what the future of the Iwi could look like and what we would like to see in 50years time when we are the parents and grandparents.

Ideas and dreams were shared in an informal brainstorming session and the excitement of possibilities, aspirations and future thinking led us to want to continue talking about it. This is when the "Wednesday Hui" started.

A couple of keen rangatahi started fleshing out the ideas and projects were formed and before long youth were voluntarily making their aspirations become a reality.

Rangatahi did a lotto drop to fund projects to start with and then with some financial support from funders Te Ara Rangatahi have been able to create a youth space and open a fully operational youth organisation.

What started off as a collection of ideas transformed into a youth led organisation implementing the aspirations of rangatahi.

Now.....

We are Dream Builders.

We believe that by inspiring rangatahi to dream and think globally they will unlock their true potential grounded with a sense of aroha we will build a generation of confident and connected leaders able to make an enduring impact.
We discovered that in order for the future of the Iwi and community to be as amazing as our aspirations we need to prepare ourselves and the younger generation to be leaders who think big, who are successful and who have a strong sense of identity and knowledge of who they are.

We are excited for the future of our Iwi and what the next 50years brings.
